Last Saturday Andres suggested a great way to visit the Opera house (the one on the Andrássy street). There are guided tours each day starting at 3 pm and 4 pm (I think) but it costs 2000 HUF just to be shown around - although one must admit that both the building itself and the interior design are magnificent. Anyway Andres said that it's much cheaper and probably more entertaining to buy low-price tickets (starting from 600 HUF) for any performance. You get to walk around, admire the place and if you don't like the opera you can always leave after the first scene.
It is possible to reserve tickets via Internet but I could only find Hungarian sites. Here's one showing prices too:
http://www.jegyvilag.hu/search.php(The Opera house is called Magyar Állami Operaház, which you can choose in the "Hol?" scroll-down menu of the toolbar.)
I'm quite sure there are English sites too, if anybody knows of any please post the links here.
Thanks,
Alice
