Hello everyone

Hope all are well

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I am sure soneone will point out my mistake if necessary!

Does anyone know of anywhere that I can take a cookery class in Englash. It does not have to be Hungarian cooking (I would prefer it not to be)

And also can anyone please tell me what the national Hungarian xmas dinner is?? All of the websites only seem to mention the xmas eve traditions (shoes outside etc) And is there anything that English do to celebrate xmas that Hungarian people would not know about or find strange (crackers / eggnog / party hats!! etc)

Thanks a lot and Merry Christmas (well nearly - I am a christmas fanatic!!)

Zoe

Hi Zoe,

In Hungary the main celebration takes place on Xmas eve, that's when we give out the presents. Then the 1st and 2nd day of Xmas is normally reserved for family visits.

Traditional Hungarian Xmas eve dinner is fish soup and fried fish with potato salad (we also make rice but I don't think that counts for traditional). Next day people normally have stuffed chicken or other poultry with stewed red cabbage and potatoes with onion.

The traditional Hungarian Xmas cake is the so-called beigli, which you will soon find in every pastry-shop. Beigli comes with walnuts and with poppy seed. (Contrary to what you might have heard in England black poppy seed has no narcotic effect - so don't expect other side effects than perhaps putting on weight Wink ) I have a very good recipe from my grandma, if you'd like to I could post it here.

As for cooking courses, I have no idea. I tend to cook whatever comes into my mind...

Alice

There are lots of cookery classes in Negland, depending where you are based.
