I'm a Dutch person who lives in England for about 5 years now. I've been a few times to Budapest and a few other places and liked it a lot.

I still have a few bottles of pálinka and - having read the other message from England, I like the Unicum Zwack too!

One day I might try again to learn the language - it sounds so special but I found it hard to learn, years ago.

Love the food as well!

Yes, I really live in Honolulu and have lived here for the last 22 years. Not only am I planning to visit Budapest but also Mezőberény which is where my grandfather was born. In order to do that though, I figure I must learn more Hungarian than I currently know. What I can tell from 7696 miles away (12,385 kilometers) is that Budapest is changing very rapidly now. I enjoy listening to Hungarian Radio over the internet, but the 11 to 12 hour time difference takes some getting used to.

I resorted to this forum because I have a rather uncommon problem. I'm going to have 12 and a half hours to spend in Budapest on 15th August, and I'd rather not spend them in an airport.

But it's my first time travelling to Hungary and I manage to get lost in my own country. If anyone here is from Budapest and would have some time to help me or could send me a mail with a few tips and details, I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you for reading this.

Hi, I am here in Budapest for 6 months (now into my second month). This is a great city with so much to do but the trouble is, it is no fun alone. Does anyone have any suggestions about where I can meet othe expats so that I don't go stir crazy at the weekends?

I am a young 52 yr old English male and I have a wide range of interests and am willing to try most things.

So all suggestions will be gratefully rec'd.

Hello everybody

Just wanted to say that I had the most fun last night at the MERLIN theater, since arrived in Budapest 5 months ago.

That is even more bizarr considering that I am Hungarian by birth, but somehow being around the English speaking crowd somehow charges me up.

Thumbs up goes out to Scott who had an oscar worthy performance, and of course to Martin who introduced me to this wonderfull world of English speaking oasis.

Only wish it would hapen more often, like now, being Saturday ...

Her name was (and maybe still is) Agnes Matyus. She should be about 46 years of age. I met her in 1978, during a concert tour in Holland. I lost track of her in 1982. She was a member of a Hungarian youth choir.

Well, have never posted on a forum before, mostly as I am utterly computer illiterate, so thought would have a go. Didn't realise all this computer stuff was so much fun. The internet as a useful and exciting piece of equipment...who'd of thunk it?! Am one of the brummie girls (ok, some are from wolvertrampton too) who have recently become desperate for friends and english speaking company, so have probably met a few of you.

Am planning to close with some smileys, just for the hell ...

Hi.

My name is Endre Iberer. I currently live in Brisbane, Australia and I have just joined this forum because it looks so interesting!

My wife and I are coming to Budapest at the end of June (after watching Australia play 3 games in the FIFA World Cup).

For me it will be the first time back to my city of birth having fled with my family as a baby in 1957. I guess many people have a similar story but it will be a very emotional time for me as I try to retrace some of my father's steps ...

Hi there...I'd love to hear from or chat with ANYONE regarding Hungary. My husband and I are thinking of moving there. I'm so glad I found this forum!!!

I'm American, he's Scottish. I am 43 and he's 50, cat and dog, no children.

We met on the internet 7 years ago...and viola...we're still together, living in Edinburgh, Scotland.

We are planning a trip to Hungary, possibly the Lake Balaton area, in April and I thought what a better way of learning more about it, than to join this forum!!! ...

Hi all,

Let me introduce myself.

I'm french, not fully came back from a recent trip in Hungary. Sounds like a piece of my mind still lies somewhere there.

My wife and I made a nice journey there. The main topic we keep in mind is the warmth of people there. There are countries where you can feel all alone and lost, but there, we couldn't stay alone more than 5 minutes looking for our way on the map, while people came and helped.

I hope I'll have many occasions to post here.

Thanks ...
