How to register

In order to post on this forum first you need to register:

To register on the forum you have to give a valid e-mail address because the system will send you a receipt with a link to confirm your registration. This is to prohibit automatic registration by robots.

If you don't want to give your private or office e-mail address then create a separate one on yahoo or hotmail or wherever you'd like to. (Mind if you tick in the box "always show my e-mail address" people won't actually be able to see your address but will be able to send an e-mail to the address you gave.)

Unfortunately it might happen that the forum doesn't accept your e-mail address. For this case, or if you have any other problems with registering, or accessing the forum please send me an e-mail and I'll see to it: aliceinbudapest@yahoo.co.uk

If you mistype your e-mail address or your mail box is temporarily out of order and your receipt cannot be delivered to you, then it ends up in my mail box and I will activate your account for you. Should this happen please change your password the next time you log on, since that too was sent to me.

How to insert images

You can only insert images hosted on the Internet. If you want to insert an image from an existing site: right click on the image -> properties -> copy the URL link -> paste it into message body like this:
http://img336.imageshack.us/img336/8131/parlament20057zs.jpg

Now highlight the inserted link and choose the image button:

You will see this:

To make sure it's working, you can choose preview before submitting your message.

This is how it will look like:

If the image is stored on your computer you will need to upload it to a webpage first. If you don't have a webpage of your own you can use Imageshack, which is a free image hosting site. By clicking on the "Insert an image" button you will be directed to Imageshack. When you finished uploading your image the direct link of your image will be displayed among many other links (it's the last one). Copy it to the message body and convert it to an image as described above.

Good luck

How to insert links

Just by copying a link into the message body it will normally be converted automatically into a fully functional link:

http://budapest.forumactif.com/
(If the editor doesn't recognise your link, you have to highlight it and click on the "link" button)

However you might find it more attractive to insert a link without actually displaying the link.
For example you can make http://budapest.forumactif.com/ to look like this: Budapest forum

All you have to do is copy the link into the message body, highlight it, click on link, you will see:

now delete ] from and replace it with a =
insert a ] between the link and

now you have something like
insert the text you want to appear between ] and [

like this:

And the result is: Budapest forum

Not so hard, is it?

How to send and check private messages

Sending them is pretty easy just click on the person's pm icon at the bottom of one of his or her messages.

To read your private messages you need to be LOGGED ON. At the top of the main forum page you will see a "you have no new messages" or "you have x new messages" according to whether or not you have messages.

Click on the link and you will be able to view your messages.

In your profile you can ask to be notified on private messages. (I find this very useful.)

Try using the private messages function, it's ever so practical for getting in touch with somebody.

I love you

How to change your e-mail address

Unfortunately the forum won’t let you to change your e-mail address and I cannot change the settings of the forum. If you send me your new e-mail address I can change your profile manually in the administration panel.

Why would you want to change your e-mail address?
If you asked to be notified on private messages, replies to your postings or if you ticked the box "always show my e-mail address" in your profile then all notifications and e-mails will be sent to the address, which you used for registration. (If you allowed others to e-mail you they won't actually be able to see your address but they can send an e-mail to the address you gave via the forum.) So in case your e-mail address changes you’ll probably want to change it on the forum too.
