| Hi! This looks promising forum, thanks to Alice. About myself, I came from Finland in May and I started working as a programmer in July. So far I have liked Budapest and maybe someday I will be able to speak this Finnish related but so different language. |

| Hello Agi, Thank you and welcome This is a rather recently started forum - we put it up on the 22nd September. But it's increasing steadily. It might one day be big and really helpful to those who wish to settle down in Hungary. I would be very much interested in learning foreigners' motivation for choosing Hungary too. Probably business or family reasons in most cases. But it would be interesting to know. Hungary isn't a very significant country after all. I often came upon people who never even heard about it or confused Budapest with Bucarest. Maybe you could ask in a separate thread. üdv, Alice _________________ I wonder if I shall fall right through the earth! | Hi pepez, Welcome on the forum and in Hungary too. I think Finnish and Hungarian language still resemble each other. Words have similar sounding and grammar is supposed to be pretty much alike. I don't know though, I don't speak any Finnish but if I hear it from far away I cannot really tell whether it's Finnish or Hungarian. I'm sure you'll be able to tell us the difference very soon. Hope to hear more from you, Alice _________________ I wonder if I shall fall right through the earth! How funny it’ll seem to come out among the people that walk with their heads downwards!

| Hi Agi, as you know we come here to enjoy the warmth of the Hungarian people. The culture, lifestyle and general ambience connot be matched(unless you have visited Japan, Ireland or Latvia). of course it has some drawbacks, freezing winters, rude shop assistants, and an abundance of dog mess. perhaps they could export it to rose growers?

| Hi Ozwolf and I've never been to Australia but all my friends who have say it's wonderful. But I agree that Budapest is beautiful too. I don't know if you ever tried driving along the Pest side Danube embankment after nightfall - I just love the site of the illuminated monuments of Buda. If you don't drive in Budapest then it's nearly the same experience if you take the tram 1 along the Danube side. Hope you'll be back on the forum and in Budapest too alice _________________ I wonder if I shall fall right through the earth! | Hi everyone My name's Mel (short for Melanie) and I moved to Budapest six months ago from London, where I was a Lecturer and researcher at the University of Greenwich. Now I teach here in various colleges (mainly cultural tourism and related subjects). My partner is Hungarian and I am having fun trying to learn the language!! I am also seven months pregnant, so I'd love to hear from anyone who is either expecting a baby, has small children, or doesn't mind going for coffee or lunch with someone who has! I really like travelling, yoga, cinema, dance, music (especially chill out and world), eating out....I used to like drinking too (wine, pints of continental lager, even Palinka at a push!), but have had to curtail my intake recently. I still like pubs, bars and nightclubs though! Look forward to hearing from you Mel |

| Hi Mel, Nice to see a going-out type "kismama" Have a look in the going-out section - that's where we have our weekly going out menu. Jo is organising bowling for this week-end but I suppose that might not be the ideal form of excercise for you right now. However, if you know of a good place to go to you can always propose it and you're likely to find eager enthusiasts (especially if it's an Indian restaurant ) I've uploaded a new smiley just for you: (it's in the "Extras") Hope to see you soon, Alice _________________ I wonder if I shall fall right through the earth! | Hi there!!!
How is it going. My name is Esteban and I'm an Spaniard from Seville who is about to go to Budapest (Feb 2008) for a year to work in something related to foreign trade. I'll work for the Andalusian Government (Spain is divided in 17 autonomies and one of them is Andalusia, you Know, Flamenco, Marbella, Beaches, La Alhambra, Sevilla Football Club and so on)
I've never been in Budapest although I already know people working there (all of them Spanish people) but I'd really like meeting people from different countries. I lived in Scotland for two years (Edinburgh, amazing city, amazing accent) and in Canada, but just for one month. I like travelling, music festivals (Budapest is very well known by its music festivals, great) rock music (and more kind of music), going out and chilling out, meeting people, camping, Monty Pitons, Billy Connolly and more or less what "normal" people usually like.
It'd be absolutely wonderful to contact people already living in Budapest. So, I'm like this, well, and much more. Take care you all and smile, it's free and makes you feel good.
Esteban.[b] |
