Transport in Budapest

Budapest public transport
http://www.bkv.hu/angol/home/index.html
(Budapest public transport is still cheap compared to other capitals of the EU.)

Taxi
Taxis can be real tourist traps, if you want to be on the safe side call one of the big taxi companies. Taxis can be called from anywhere, they will normally arrive in less than 5 minutes and will charge you according to their rates.
Most of the taxis have fixed prices for transport between the airport and Budapest (depending on whether it’s the Pest or Buda side of the Danube). You’ll find a lot of taxis at the airport, however they might want to charge you more than the average rate, so consider calling a taxi from a well know company (they usually have parking areas near the airport so you won’t need to wait for long).

Airport transfer ("Reptéri transzfer" in Hungarian) should be around
4.000 HUF for Pest side
4.500 HUF for Buda side
(The airport is on the Pest side.)

Some of the biggest Taxi companies:

-> Budataxi: +36-1-2-333-333

-> Főtaxi: +36-1-2-222-222

-> Citytaxi: +36-1-2-111-111
(There is an English version, you have to click in the left bottom corner where it says “magyarul” and change it to English)

-> Taxi 2000: +36-1-2-000-000

-> Tele 5 Taxi: +36-1-5-555-555

Have a nice stay in Budapest,

Sophie
Very Happy

PS. I don't know any Budapest hotels, never stayed in any of them Wink

Hello Sophie and other Budapest fans!

I would add one more useful link: http://www.budapest-tourist-guide.com
My husband and I have been building it since last June. Our aim is to help travellers plan their trip and explore our capital. Those who can't find something on our site can contact us through our contact form and we try our best to help her/him. We live here in Budapest so we have up-to-date information about upcoming events, tourist news, popular places etc.
Enjoy our site!

ps: I hope my post will not be regarded as advertisement, we don't earn money with the site. I think it's on par with with the other sites mentioned in this topic regarding quality information and design.

I would just add this Budapest Guide as well. Contains lots of information, a blog that is frequently updated and the guide is available in several languages!
