PostSubject: train stations   Mon 10 Oct 20:18

I am soon to be flying into Budapest on the way to slovenia, and I was wondering if anyone knew which of the three international train stations (Deli, Keleti or Nyugati) was closest to ferihegy airport?

And what is the best way of making that trip? I was thinking of just getting a taxi to save time because I have a connection to make.

Thanks

Hello,

Keleti railway station is the closest but if you're going by public transport than you're better off with Nyugati as you can go to Kőbánya-Kispest with the airport bus and get on the metro 3 which will take you directly to Nyugati train station. (The airport bus is called the Reptér-busz)

Taxis have a regular airport transfer and they are more comfortable. If you are going to Keleti than they are faster too, to Nyugati it will probably take you somewhat longer, but if you have to get to Déli then I wouldn't really advise you to sit in a cab between 8 am and 6 pm.

For Taxis see here.

Alice

If you're going to Slovenia, either Keleti or Deli station will be your choice. If you use mass transit, the airport bus takes you to the subway (as Alice said) and is uneffected by traffic. Then you have to change to another subway line (however different directions, depending on which station are you going to). If it's traffic jam time, a taxi may be faster to Keleti, but I bet it's slower to Deli. That station is located very far from the airport, on the other side on the Danube. Daytime, it would take 1h 10 mins to Deli from the airport by bus/sub.

the comfortable alternative to the taxi - the Airport Minibus. One of the most efficient operations in Hungary. When you come out from customs at the airport their desk is immediately in front of you. They group people to the same sections of town and deliver you in comfort to your destination at about half the price of a taxi.

If you are staying in Budapest, get a round trip ticket - but be sure to make your reservation for the return trip 24 hours in advance. They will pick you up at the most 'unreasonable' hours in order to get you to your early flight. Do take seriously their time table. If they tell you to be at the curb between 6:50 and 7:10 BE THERE, because they will leave.
